What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

My vision for Knoxville is to continue to grow and diversify in a thoughtful manner that respects the history of our region and all of its people.

What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?

Martha Bogg's flash fried brussel sprouts on the Winter menu at the Bistro at the Bijou.

What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?

I would work to strengthen Knoxville by working to make our city non-directional to move forward in a unified front.

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

My favorite Knoxville memory are my personal experiences with the 1982 World's Fair. The world came to Knoxville, and the excitement was palpable everywhere you went throughout the city.

What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?

Currently on my nightstand, Washington by Ron Chernow, The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday, Chicken Boy by Arthur Parkinson & Good Energy by Casey Means, MD

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

I can't name just one. My father, Harvey Young, who encouraged me to choose a profession that I would enjoy & told me I could do anything, and my late mother, Namuni Young, who modeled the importance of pursuing your interests and instilling a sense of place. Connie Hutchins, who modeled how to run a small business and conveyed to me that professional life and community service are integral partners, and Lynn Petr, who modeled the appreciation of the value of every person in any situation.

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

This part of life is merely a blip on the radar, and you can do anything that you want to do. You just have to put in the work.
