What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

The Knoxville downtown skyline will change with the construction of new large office buildings along Gay Street and a new arena for hockey, concerts, and other entertainment will replace the Civic Coliseum. These infrastructure improvements will happen because Knoxville is growing as a destination city for business, recreation, and education.

What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?

Recreation activities such as hiking, cycling, and water sports are all accessible within minutes of all the restaurants, arts, and entertainment offered in the downtown area. Close proximity to mountains and big-time college sports is a huge perk to Knoxville residents.

What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?

Continue to make biking lanes and/or bike trails a priority in state and local transportation or recreational budgets. Continue to improve the Knoxville waterfront on both the north and south sides of the Tennessee River.

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

Seeing "Hamilton" at the beautiful Tennessee Theatre. Before the show we had an incredible meal on Gay Street and of course a post-show Guiness at our favorite Irish pub. It is a wonderful gift that Knoxville has "big city" amenities such as great art and food options that are easily accessible.

What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?

Pillars of the Earth is my favorite book. The Gentleman in Moscow is currently on my nighstand.

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

Have a positive attitude and value humor. I think I always had these values but to see these attributes as a key piece of the corporate culture at Strata-G was impactful to me. Strata-G founder Dan Hurst, also an LK graduate, was an excellent mentor.

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

It is ok to take a risk and maybe even fail, because in failure comes the best learning and growth opportunities.
