What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?
The 10-year vision for the Asian Culture Center of Tennessee (ACCTN) is to establish itself as an educational non-profit that offers diverse educational programs. ACCTN aims to create vibrant, healthy, and just communities where the identities and heritage of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) groups are affirmed and celebrated. This will be achieved through initiatives that promote cross-cultural exchange, intergenerational dialogue, and educational programming.
What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?
Knoxville's best-kept secret is the profound contributions of Asians to East TN: Kin Takahashi (Maryville College football), George Masa (Great Smoky Mountains National Park), Ming Kao (GPS at UTK), Dr. Tasi (N95 mask material at UTK), and the Knox Asian Festival, named the #1 Best Arts and Culture Festival in the South by the Southeast Festivals and Events Association.
What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?
To strengthen Knoxville, I would invest in education and job training programs, support local businesses, enhance public transportation, promote cultural diversity through community events, and foster partnerships between local organizations and non-profits.
What is your favorite Knoxville memory?
My favorite Knoxville memory is the 10th Knox Asian Festival - the biggest and most educational festival. I remember kids' smiling faces, good foods & drinks, people enjoying diverse cultures, and making new friends.
