What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?
In 10 years, I envision Knoxville as a kind, inclusive community, celebrating the arts and literature with thriving public spaces and bookstores. We will be stewards of our natural surroundings, ensuring that our parks, greenways, and outdoor spaces are preserved and accessible for everyone to enjoy.
What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?
Knoxville's best-kept secret is its network of greenways and trails, perfect for exploring the city's natural beauty.
What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?
To strengthen Knoxville, I would focus on fostering community connections, supporting local arts and literature, and enhancing outdoor spaces. By promoting inclusive events, preserving our natural environment, and investing in public education, we can build a more resilient and united Knoxville.
What is your favorite Knoxville memory?
It's a toss up between hiking at Ijams with my family and attending festivals at World's Fair Park.
What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?
I read widely and my favorites change every year. I usually have one fiction book and one non-fiction audio book going.
What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?
One of my early mentors, a friend in publishing, advised me that the best thing I could do in my career was to show initiative. She encouraged me to raise my hand and volunteer for projects I was passionate about. This advice has been instrumental in my growth and success.
What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?
I would tell her to follow her passions.
