What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?
My vision for the next decade would be a place where the majority of residents can say that their life has improved while living in Knoxville. I hope that people will continue to tackle the challenges that we face today and help continue to foster a better place to raise a family, have successful careers and enjoy all the fun things that Knoxville has to offer. Growing up here people have always been proud that they live in Knoxville and we need to show new residents what this Scruffy Little City has to offer.
What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?
I would say the quality of life in Knoxville is the best kept secret, for now. I have traveled to a lot of cities over the years, and I would say that Knoxville has the right mix of urban amenities and outdoor activities that anyone could ask for. It is hard to beat the Smoky Mountains, parks, museums, theatres, sports and vibrant downtown. I hear visitors comment all the time on how friendly the people are in Knoxville and how we have all these wonderful things to do.
What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?
I have seen Knoxville change for the better over the years, but it seems like our housing, homelessness and education system need to catch up to the population growth that has occurred since the pandemic. The anticipated population growth coming in the next 10 years will directly impact the wonderful quality of life we have if we cannot address homelessness, housing, and education.
What is your favorite Knoxville memory?
Being from Knoxville I have way too many to pick from, but some of my favorite memories that stand out for me occurred during the numerous summers spent at Gulf Park Pool.
What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?
Currently I am reading Desolation Code by Clive Cussler and Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell
What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?
Consume knowledge from smart people and pay attention to the details nobody focuses on. - Anonymous
What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?
There are a lot of things, but mainly take time to travel more, don't sweat the small stuff, continue to keep up with technology, maintain a healthy work life balance and trust in God's plan.
