What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

My vision for Knoxville would be to build on what makes it special: incredible access to the outdoors, friendly people, and the livability of a mid-sized city. I hope we continue to grow in ways that bring people together, create opportunity for connection across communities, and support our local business community.

What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?

The Ethiopian restaurant, Gosh. It may not be a secret to everyone, but it's excellent and authentic.

What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?

Two areas stand out: better access to high-quality, affordable childcare and more widespread availability of healthy food options. Supporting families in these ways can unlock a stronger, healthier future for our city.

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

I love the Knoxville Marathon each year in April. This past year was special because I ran the kid's race with my young daughter. She loved it, and in the months after, she kept asking to watch the race videos again and again.

What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?

Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

My dad growing up told us repeatedly that - you have to be mentally tough - and - you should always try your best. It sounded simple then, but I think about that often now. When life is demanding or challenging, having grit and the commitment to contribute your best work will take you a long way.

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

Character is everything. There will be moments when doing the right thing costs you in the short-term, but in the long run, integrity is always worth it. Surround yourself with people of strong character - they'll inspire you, challenge you, and make you better.
