What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?
I envision a Knoxville that grows with purpose, where economic expansion, innovation, and quality of life move forward together. I hope we continue building a city where entrepreneurs thrive, local talent chooses to stay, and housing, education, and access to capital remain within reach. With continued investment in infrastructure, downtown, and natural spaces, alongside support for our arts, music, and cultural scene, Knoxville can be an incredible place with strong, community-driven leadership where everyone has the opportunity to prosper and enjoy a rich, fulfilling quality of life.
What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?
Knoxville's best kept secret is its ability to feel like a small town and a thriving city at the same time. From mountain trails and bold local food to a rich arts and music scene that includes symphonies, opera, and groups like the Amadeus Concert Ensemble, it's a place where connection, creativity, and nature all live side by side.
What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?
I'd invest more in mentorship, business education, and civic engagement, especially for students and early-career professionals. Empowering people to understand resource management, capital, and long-term planning is key to building generational strength in our community.
What is your favorite Knoxville memory?
Some of my favorite memories are from simple walks downtown. Early mornings at the farmers market, afternoons at the dog park, and just running into familiar faces. I actually met my spouse at the downtown dog park, so that spot will always mean something special. Knoxville's walkable, vibrant downtown makes it easy to feel connected to people, to place, and to a community that feels like home.
What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?
Fantasy fiction is my go-to for escape and imagination (The Hobbit, Assassin's Apprentice, and Dungeon Crawler Carl top the list). On the nonfiction side, I've been reflecting a lot on Never Split the Difference and The Growth Leader.
What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?
Michelle Hardin, a mentor and leader at First Horizon, once told me, "If it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you." That advice helped push me to embrace growth and not to seek comfort, whether through tough assignments, bold goals, or moments of uncertainty. It taught me that leadership is built in the stretch, not the safe zone.
What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?
I'd tell my 16-year-old self that you don't have to do it all alone. I learned independence early and had to figure things out for myself, often through trial and error. But real strength came when I started building a community around me. Support can come from unexpected places. Seek out mentors, lean on your circle, and give back in return.
