What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?
I imagine Knoxville in ten years to be an (even more!) vibrant tapestry woven with interconnected public spaces. Envision a "Knoxville Greenline" - a network of pedestrian and cycling paths, unique to Knoxville, but drawing inspiration from Atlanta's transformative Beltline. This network would strategically link our cherished gems: a revitalized TN riverfront, historic and new cultural anchors, directly to our diverse neighborhoods. Every greenline segment will be an engaging public space in itself, featuring pop-up art and experiences, local restaurants and retail. This increased connectivity will foster a healthier, more resilient Knoxville, where every resident can easily access recreation, commerce, and community, strengthening our unique identity.
What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?
The TN River as a connector. So much unrealized potential to highlight and engage with the river.
What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?
Focus on preservation of character and community while fostering meaningful growth.
What is your favorite Knoxville memory?
The hippo and polar bear at the zoo!
What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?
I keep an ongoing combo of non fiction and fiction, recent favorites are Atomic Habits and All the Colors of the Dark.
What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?
Sara Hedstrom Pinnell, don't make all A's in design school, if you do, you aren't challenging yourself enough. This has resonated as always ask questions, always push the envelope. Thank you, Sara.
What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?
Have awareness of and navigate the fine balance of competence and confidence.
