What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

Knoxville is a thriving hub of economic and community activity and provides East Tennessee families with access to opportunities that enhance their quality of life. Knoxville organizations in both the private and public sectors are recognized as leaders both nationally and globally for their contributions to civil society.

What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?

Angry Dumplings Tea

What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?

I would leverage the tremendous human capital in the greater Knoxville metro to advance our innovation economy.

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?

I am reading The Party's Interests Come First: The Life of Xi Zhongxun, Father of Xi Jinping

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

I had a wonderful mentor called Joe Bordogna, who was the COO at the National Science Foundation and former Dean of the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Penn. His advice to me was think big and be bold, but never lose sight of the implementation details. He had a huge impact on my career. I was 30 when I met him, and he empowered me to lead initiatives that, quite frankly, I was never sure I could deliver on - he inspired me to believe that I could solve any problem, both anticipated and unanticipated, that arose.

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

Have courage, take action - you never know what you'll learn.
