I see a lot of opportunity for collaboration that is not currently in effect because folks are so accustomed to a scarcity mindset rather than one of abundance. I would love to see that changed in 10 years. I want to see more jobs offering a living wage and fewer folks facing homelessness and poverty. Finally, I would love for more of our communities to be walkable with additional sidewalks.

My neighborhood on Sherrod Road in South Knox. It's heaven! I'm so glad I got here before the South Waterfront / Sevier Ave work was put into motion. Also, the idea that Knoxville is really a small town with the population of a city. It's rare that I visit Market Square and don't see someone that I know. I attended a political event years ago and saw more than 20 folks that I knew. I decided then that I didn't want to leave Knoxville because it would take too long to rebuild that kind of community.

I would encourage more open conversation across all barriers: religion, political, age, gender, education, socio-economic status, etc. I would find more opportunities for folks to voice their opinions and engage in the decisions that most affect them. City council / county commission meetings are one area, but I think it should be easier and more modern.

Just do the thing and stop worrying about what others think. Their opinions will not matter at all in the future. Always be kind to others. Your unique combination of humility and humor will get you thought 90% of the challenges and opportunities that will come your way. Hard work and peer support will round out the other 10%. Don't take anything or anyone for granted. Don't be shy about sharing your successes. Breathe. Remember this moment.
