What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?
My 10 year vision for Knoxville is that our city continues to become the best midsize city in the Southeast - a place that innovates and creates affordable and attainable housing, diverse and thriving neighborhoods, and job and business opportunities while preserving the natural beauty and character that make East Tennessee unique.
What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?
The personalities and distinctiveness of such a variety of neighborhoods, especially within the city limits.
What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?
To strengthen Knoxville over the next few years, I would want to invest in racial reconciliation throughout the city, create greater equity in education, and find ways to innovate for affordable housing. I would also find ways to move past the disunity that has grown to ridiculous levels in the past decade.
What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?
My Name is Asher Lev, by Chaim Potok
What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?
"If you're getting some kind of pushback and complaining, it only means you're doing something right." Dr. David Reece (professor)
What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?
I would tell my 16 year old self to find people to help you learn how to learn. Don't wait til 30 years old.
