What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

In 10 years, Knoxville will be one of America's best places to live - with a world-class zoo, science and art organizations, smart development that honors our past, a thriving economy, a vibrant East Knoxville, and a proud, civically engaged community.

What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?

As newcomers to Knoxville, we've loved discovering its hidden gems - though our world-class zoo is hardly a secret! Favorites include Ijams, the Tennessee Theatre, Wild Love Bakehouse, and DiVinci's - our top NJ-style pizza find in Old City.

What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?

I'm honored to play a key role in the revitalization of East Knoxville and the Magnolia Avenue corridor. This long-term development will enhance the Zoo's world-class reputation while significantly improving accessibility and public use of Chilhowee Park.

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

My favorite Knoxville memory is from my interview trip - UT won the College World Series, and I got swept up in the celebration downtown, with Rocky Top echoing late into the night and fans filling Market Square as the team returned with the trophy.

What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?

Galapagos: A Novel by Kurk Vonnegut. My wife and I just returned from leading a trip to the Galapagos for the Zoo and it is a magical place.

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

It's hard to lead if no one follows you (Jamie Clark, Defenders of Wildlife). Leadership isn't about position - it's about people. True leaders build trust, inspire excitement, and share a vision that others want to be part of.

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

Be curious and don't be afraid to fail. Follow your passion. Focus less on having all the answers and more on listening and asking good questions. The world is MUCH bigger than you can imagine but you will have the capacity to make a significant difference throughout it.
