What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?
I would love to see Knoxville nationally recognized as a safe and welcoming community, a place for all individuals and families, to live, work, start and operate businesses, play, and retire. A stand out community recognized for leading innovation, diversity, and deep resources for everyone. A place where all have access to justice and affordable healthcare. A place where neighbors love and genuinely care for one another.
What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?
In short, Knoxville has a small town feel with big city perks. From the Tennessee and Bijou Theaters to nationally recognized sports teams, to fine dining and arts, Knoxville has it all. We have a large population with the ability to still meaningfully connect with each other.
What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?
I think connecting our various communities and neighborhoods is key. When we find ways to connect and learn more about each other, then we can work together for a common good in a great way. I would want to assure all are provided for and cared for. I would want to be respectful and thoughtful about how to lovingly and substantively assure no one among us goes without a voice or basic daily necessities, while always encouraging an expectation of personal growth and daily development.
What is your favorite Knoxville memory?
I have 2. The Worlds Fair, though I was very young (2 years old). Second, watching Tennessee beat Florida with a last second field goal in football. I'll never forget the excitement of celebrating with my wife, my best friend, and 100,000 fellow fans in Neyland Stadium.
What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?
My favorite book is actually a collection of 66 books all knit together in a beautiful metanarrative know as the Bible. I'm currently reading books by author Erik Larson.
What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?
"Just do your best, Adam. Your best is always good enough." - My mom "Be kind to the court clerks." - My first boss/mentor, Attorney Bill Hampton
What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?
Don't stress and worry so much. It all turns out pretty great. Put your faith fully in God. Lean on your friends and family. It's all going to work out. Be still. Be strong.
