What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

I think Knoxville is a terrific city already, which is why so many people are moving here. I believe at some point an investment in our infrastructure is going to be required in order to manage the growth.

What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?

We have a lot of really terrific local restaurants. Aside from Potchke Deli and J.C. Holdway, which have gotten national recognition, we have gems like Jackie's Dream, A Dopo, Abridged, Holy Land, plus many others.

What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?

I believe that as we grow it becomes critically important that we support the building of community. Despite the size, Knoxville's people still have a small town feel. We need to work to maintain that culture of community and friendliness to our neighbors.

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?

The Lord of the Rings

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

Former District Public Defender Mark Stephens spent a considerable amount of time mentoring me his last few years in office. I cannot point to a single piece of advice that he gave me because he and I met so frequently, and covered so much, to prepare me to take over as his successor.

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

Buy stock in Amazon and Monster Beverage. Even though that would eventually make me rich, I would tell my younger self to go to Ball State beginning in 2000 so that I would still meet my wife.
