What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

My vision for Knoxville in 2034 is an inclusive, diverse, and vibrant city that ensures every Knoxvillian has the opportunity to thrive. To do this, our city must lead the region as environmental stewards, prioritize and invest in public education, and host a strong web of holistic and accessible social and health supports. Through addressing the social determinants of health, we will be free to raise a generation of folks who have the tools and capacity to meaningfully dialogue across differences and share our human capital with the region and beyond.

What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?

No matter where you are in Knoxville, you are always within 15 minutes of an amazing hike, park, playground, or gorgeous sunset view.

What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?

I would harness the power and reach of our local public schools to improve access to resources, promote community growth, and encourage a comprehensive network of support for our underserved communities. I would also increase diversity in leadership, incentivize sustainable practices for businesses, and build accessible cradle-to-grave support services.

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

Standing at my backyard wedding reception in October 2023 with all my friends and loved ones from across the nation. An honorable mention goes to my surprise birthday party at Sassy Ann's in which the whole party burst into "You've lost that loving feeling" at the top of their lungs a-la that scene in Top Gun.

What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?

My (current) favorite book is Martyr! By Kaveh Akbar but on my nightstand is Punished for Dreaming by Bettina Love

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

From my mother, Debbie Al-Aseer, "The squeaky wheel get the oil.

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

Your worth is not determined by your productivity: take time for yourself, don't be in such a hurry to "adult," and just enjoy the ride.
