What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?
I see Knoxville thriving and growing in a way that both honors the city's history and heritage and also preserves the sense of community that makes Knoxville so special.
What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?
Other than the nearby Museum of Appalachia? Although I'm not sure it's really a secret, I think it's all of the natural beauty that surrounds this area-- the mountains, rivers, and lakes- and the parks that preserve them and inspire future generations.
What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?
I would be intentional about the growth and development of our city, honoring what makes Knoxville such a unique and wonderful place to work and live. I would seek ways to meet challenges like affordable housing and traffic congestion that will become more prominent as our city grows, and I would strive to make all Knoxville communities desirable places to call home.
What is your favorite Knoxville memory?
I love watching the Vols play football during those first days of fall when there's a crispness in the air.
What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?
Right now I'm reading The Covenant of Water.
What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?
I have so many! My mom told me this -- "You can't do it all, but if you do the most you can as best you can, that will always be enough." I've also always loved and tried to live by Alex Haley's motto of "Find the good and praise it.
What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?
Study abroad and trust your instincts!
