CURRENT CLASS

Knoxville feels like one of those smaller cities ready to explode. We can already see and feel the cramps of growth in some areas. Progress isn't always painless. But, with that progress, I hope to see Knoxville retain its old soul and remain that peculiar mountain city that remains special for so many people.

Proximity. From downtown, I am less than an hour from watching synchronous fireflies in a rainforest. An hour drive the other way, I can be in one of the only Dark Sky Parks east of the Rockies. So, one hour I get bugs dancing in a conga line, the other hour, I get the Milky Way. Not bad.

What's next? What's the vision for growth with keeping character? How do we make more of the metro area accessible to more people? I'd like to see stronger county/city partnerships and a renewed focus on community engagement and enrichment opportunities for the future generations. I'm very excited to see how the new Volunteer entertainment district changes downtown and campus for the good. Oh, and a downtown grocery store would be nice too.
