What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?
Enhanced visibility and reputation of Knoxville among the most influential leaders at the world's largest companies. In my role as a professor of practice at Haslam College of Business, I have the opportunity to showcase the sharpest and most successful people in Knoxville's business and community to nationwide CEOs, founders, and innovators through my trusted relationships in media and corporate worlds over four decades. One recent example captured during the new UT Haslam podcast, "Office Hours: Business Edition," my guest JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon promises to visit Knoxville and teach classes at Haslam!
What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?
Cherokee Boulevard in Sequoyah Hills
What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?
Returning to my hometown of Knoxville, I would bring insights (good and bad) gleaned from living the last four decades in New York City, Washington DC and San Francisco, as a journalist, corporate executive, philanthropist and mom.
What is your favorite Knoxville memory?
Spending time on Cherokee Boulevard -- running on the center gravel median, hanging out with friends and boyfriends, attending Webb School cheerleading practice, delighting in the dogwoods and Tennessee River.
What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?
"You don't get if you don't ask." My mom, Helen Langley, emphasized the importance of communication and initiative in achieving my goals, in both my personal and professional life.
What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?
Curiosity never graduates! Though you often drive people crazy with endless questions, your innate curiosity will fuel your journalistic and corporate careers. Even better, it's your path to lifelong learning.
