What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?
Knoxville is in a prime position to continue to grow into a larger city. My hope is that Knoxville does not grow too quickly or without thought. With so many attributes like downtown life, proximity to outdoor recreation, adjacent to a major university and crossroads for interstate trade, Knoxville offers so much to those that live and work in the area. I would like to see Knoxville continue to grow but keep the same charm that I've enjoyed growing up in the area.
What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?
Outdoor recreation is at the heart of what makes this area unique. There are so many activities that families, outdoor enthusiasts and weekend warriors can enjoy.
What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?
Continued planned and strategic growth, focusing on growth that enhances Knoxville and doesn't simply turn it into another metropolis.
What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?
Any book by David Baldacci. Current read is No Man's Land
What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?
Don't be afraid to make mistakes - Parents. I grew up with very supportive parents who wanted to me to try new things. New sports, new hobbies, new extracurricular activities. I learned to take risks and was allowed to make mistakes, which allowed me to learn "how to" and "how not to" do certain things.
What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?
Be more engaged outside of work and get to know leaders in your community.
