As an engineer, I'm energized by Knoxville's growth and its emergence as a Center of Scientific Excellence and Innovation. My vision extends beyond R&D; it includes developing the next generation of technical leaders who will shape the future for decades. I see us strengthening our "STEM Farming" ecosystem - intentionally cultivating curiosity, skill, and opportunity so our youth become the national standard. When someone meets a kid from Knoxville, I want them to immediately recognize a capable, confident contributor ready to make an impact.

What's remarkable is that our Appalachian identity doesn't resist modernization; it welcomes it. It gives us permission to evolve without losing the spirit that defines us. Across the region, you'll find countless businesses, organizations, and communities, each with their own character. But when you step into the surrounding cities and counties, you can feel it - you know you're in Knoxville and in the foothills of Appalachia. That sense of place, that unmistakable cultural fingerprint, is what makes our progress meaningful. It's what makes our future feel like a continuation of our story rather than a departure from it.

I would strengthen Knoxville by working directly with civic, governmental, business, and nonprofit partners to identify emerging talent, provide targeted technical training, and continuously measure community needs so our resources stay aligned with the region's growth. My focus is on expanding Knoxville's STEM ecosystem - especially as AI, nuclear power, and other advanced industries accelerate here. By building a coordinated pipeline that discovers talent early, equips people with relevant skills, and connects them to real opportunities, we ensure Knoxville has a workforce ready to step up and lead in every sector of innovation.

My current read is Barracoon by Zora Neal Hurston.

Dr. Harold Conner, a UT Alum and my mentor, once told me to "Get in the Game" and also to "Get some amnesia". Basically if we dwell on our past failures, or successes, we will miss the next thing. We should embrace it, learn from it, and move on as to avoid complacency.

Learn to say No. Embrace your own truth. Acknowledge where you are, identify where you want to be, then make a plan to bridge that gap.
