What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?
I hope Knoxville continues to be a place that you want to raise your family in....a city that you want your children to remember fondly or a home that one might return to and continue a legacy. I pray that we are known as a city that loves as Christ loves and gives as Christ gives.
What is Knoxville's Best Kept Secret?
Knoxville's best kept secret is the people. I'm Southern but there is something different here in Knoxville. I'm proud that my grandparents raised my mother right over here on Luttrell St., so I'm sure I'm a bit biased.... but this is truly my home and I can feel it. I have memories of my grandfather getting his pistol out at family events...just to show it off...and then my parents getting mad and leaving my grandparents' home...it was never a real obstacle but our family had divisions. That has always been Knoxville to me. If I had to make a generalization, I experience most people here at home are a cross between Southern Sweetness and Appalachian Toughness...and there is no disrespect meant for either. Strong and Loving... Thank God
What would you do to strengthen Knoxville?
I would strengthen Knoxville by inviting Knoxville to pray on a more routine basis. I wish our bells rang like the European church bells rings. The world needs prayer...America needs prayer...I need prayer...You need prayer... and that is one of the best ways in which the church can help heal the world. Prayer.
What is your favorite Knoxville memory?
My favorite Knoxville memory is a snow day here where my family lives in Holston Hills. The Golf course was closed so we were able to go out with my children and we got the sleds out and running and we got our Great Danes out and having fun...and then we met so many friends in our community. Knoxville was at its best!
What is your favorite book or what book is currently on your nightstand?
Currently I'm reading Benedictine Spirituality for the 21st Century
What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?
Be an optimist.- Jim Haslam
What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?
In the end, suffering is the only thing we really own.
